Weekly Gratitude

I was planning on posting something last night about how much I've been on an interior design kick lately. I can't get enough of the home improvement shows on HGTV and DIY Network.  Blog subject material is the main reason I don't post a lot-I'm just not sure what to write about.  I also thought I might put up a post about my most recent crochet project, or what I'm going to wear to the wedding I'm going to this weekend.  Then a story came up on the news about a seven year old boy that lost his battle with cancer yesterday.  He was a philanthropist and collected pillow pets to give to other children diagnosed with cancer.  The news announcer said he may have a had a short life, but it was complete.  This story really struck me because I often get caught up in my "oh woe is me" attitude.  I sometimes feel burden with the care of my children and forget what a privilege and blessing it is that I get to spend so much time with two beautiful, healthy children.  That's when I remembered my friend Jill at All the Chic Things and her weekly gratitude post*. What a great idea to write about the things I'm thankful for each week.  So here it goes...

  • Healthy, beautiful, and funny children. I'm so thankful I get to spend so much time with them, and see them grow each and every day in so many ways.
  • My husband has been gone on business since Monday, and I'm so thankful that he gets home today.
  • We recently returned from a wonderful vacation to Martha's Vineyard.  I'm so thankful we missed hurricane Irene.  After seeing all of the damage on the news, I'm so thankful that the vineyard was spared, and my in-laws house suffered little to no damage.  I pray for those families that were affected by the storm.
  • Finally, I'm thankful for my good health.  Like I said above, it's something that is so easily taken for granted.  I am a runner, and it's become somewhat of an addiction for me-in a positive perspective.  If I couldn't run or continue an active lifestyle that lets me care for my family, I think my well being would be impacted in a most negative manner.
*A little note: I believe Jill borrowed the weekly gratitude idea from Pink to Green.
